In response to major ethical breaches by some of the Big4, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand are asking members to vote for changes to by-laws that would allow CAANZ’s Professional Conduct Committee to demand a refund or credit for fees if they rule you to have breached your ethical standards.
If the vote gets up, your firm could be exposed to financial penalties from disgruntled client claims. We have shared experiences that the client isn’t always right, and accountants must quickly find a way to mitigate that risk. We’re guessing that CPA and IPA may look to introduce similar by-laws.
How would you feel about your professional body deeming that you’ve missed something and forcing you to repay thousands of dollars back to a disgruntled client – and if you don’t, you forfeit your membership!
Warning: Engagement software (including our own) alone won’t protect your firm against potential claims.

The True Tech Advocate for Accountants
In the ever-evolving world of accounting and technology, few voices stand as resolute and genuine as Paul Meissner's. While some may misinterpret his straight talk as resistance to technological advancement, the truth couldn’t be farther from that. Paul is, at his core, a staunch advocate for technology – but not just any technology. He champions solutions that genuinely uplift the accounting profession and challenge the status quo.
Paul's mission has never been to dismiss technology; rather, it's to dismiss misleading marketing. He believes accountants deserve transparent, effective, and transformative tools. His advocacy is not against innovation but against the smoke and mirrors that sometimes accompany it.
In this complex nexus of accountancy and tech, Paul Meissner emerges as a beacon – championing a harmonious relationship between the two. His passion? To see technology and accountants not as adversaries but as partners, thriving together.
